Host a food drive with your organization or company to fill the shelves at Central Storehouse!

FOOD DRIVE PLANNING

Have a meeting with your team and

answer the following questions:

• Will you or your company be partnering with anyone else for the food drive?

• What is the start and end date for the food drive?

• How many pounds of food or how many meals (1.2lbs = 1 meal) would you like to set as your goal for the food drive?

• Determine what food you would like to collect for donation. Central Storehouse is determined to provide healthy food options for their neighbors. Collection of low trans-fat, low sodium, and low sugar foods are preferable. All foods must be shelf stable, non-expired, and aged prior to the best buy or sell by dates on the item.

• Where will your collection location or locations be?  (You want it to be visible for all people to encourage greater engagement)

• Will you be collecting food and monetary donations? (A QR Code will be sent to post if you want to include a monetary option.)

• Do you have a creative theme for your food drive?

• Will the food drive include a competition?  Often this will bring in more donations.  Competitions can take place between groups or departments within an organization or even by storefront locations.  If it is a competition, talk about that the reward will be for the winner.

• How will the food get to Central Storehouse?  Will you deliver or will you need us to pick up the donations?

• Are you interested in a food drive toolkit to be sent to you?

UNDERSTAND THE NEED

The east Fort Worth area is a food desert. That means that an area has very limited access to healthy foods.  In the community that we serve, more than 18% of the people struggle with what is called food insecurity. That means that they often do not know where their next meal will come from. There is also a great need among the children of east Fort Worth.  More than 20% of the kids are facing childhood hunger, that is 1 out of ever 5 kids in our community. The need is great!

Your food drive can be for the general operations of Central Storehouse as we serve more than 1,500 families per month. You can also do a food drive specifically for the Storehouse Students program that delivers 5-6lb bags of food to more than 450 students from 8 schools in the area on a weekly basis. Food donations for that program will need to be shelf-stable single-serving items such as fruit cups, proteins such as tuna snacks and food bars, apples and oranges, drinks, and more.

The need is great and you can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors. Please feel free to contact us at info@central-storehouse.org with any questions you might have about the ministry or the food drive process.
